Our audio systems support all areas of our weekend services. Incorporating the use of the sound system in worship enables the gospel message communicated in our services to be heard "loud and clear," invites those who are presenting (preachers, worship leaders, etc.) to participate with an un-exaggerated amount of effort and ensure that all of those in attendance can engage in a meaningful way as the worship event unfolds.
On-Boarding
The process of on-boarding to serve in sound is outlined below:
- Complete the Walnut Hill online serving orientation videos at www. walnuthillcc.org
- Review the Technical Ministry Team serving overview at www.walnuthillworship.org/tech
- Meet with the Technical Team leader for your campus or congregation
- Take the "Sound Aptitude Test"
- Shadow a current sound team member for two to four sessions to get comfortable with the scope and demands of the role
- Transition into operating sound over four to eight sessions under the supervision of an experienced team member
- You're ready to independently serve on a regularly scheduled basis
Please note that steps five and six are flexible: the amount of time spent in each will be adjusted based on your prior experience, and the speed and which you develop certain key capabilities. The times referenced are an general benchmark.
Depending on the campus and congregation where you serve, there may be slightly different tools and responsibilities, but the core responsibilities of the role are the same:
- Ensure a neat and orderly setup of all audio equipment (including cables, snakes, speakers, monitors, in-ear monitor systems, etc.)
- Run a thorough sound check, verifying adequate operating levels for audio signals for all inputs and outputs used in each service
- Prepare and run a clean, balanced musical mix for the congregation
- Adjust independent mixes for additional outputs as necessary: stage monitors, audio recordings, video capture, overflow areas, etc.
- Actively participate in the mid-week rehearsal to become familiar with worship team musical arrangements (who is playing/singing what, when, etc.)
- Capture an audio recording of the entire service
- Return audio materials to their permanent storage locations
Other responsibilities may include:
- Participation in the setup/teardown process with the rest of the worship and tech team
- Maintaining equipment
- Troubleshooting various tech systems
